Homecoming - Zombie Attack

from PNWFS Demo Reel by David Lee Grossman

/

about

A scene from the TV movie “Homecoming,” part of the HBO TV series “Masters of Horror” that Hummie Mann scored. Like Cane, this is one of the films that is used every year, and each student creates an original score for the same scene. This has to be a fully electronic score (although we don’t have to go full sound design), and we received a set of hit points the ‘director’ wants us to hit as well as some things he wants us to do at them (of course, given in non-musical terms that we have to interpret).

A speechwriter for an unnamed president (parodying both Bill Clinton and George W Bush) tells the grieving mother of a soldier who died in Iraq, “if I had one wish, I would wish for your son to come back, because I know he would tell us how important this struggle is.” Later, the president’s advisor calls him to say that the president is planning on making that line part of his next speech. In typical horror film fashion, the fallen soldiers do start returning from the dead on their return to the US. The guards, not knowing their true intent, open fire when they discover them, but are unable to kill the zombies.

As this is a rescoring of a copyrighted film, we only have permission to publicly share the music we composed due to the agreement Hummie Mann has with the production company that produced the series - the program can use this scene each year as an exercise film and the students can send it to directors privately upon request but not post it publicly.
